Creating Myth, Celeb Persona (NaPoWriMo 2017-Day 19)

http://www.napowrimo.net/day-nineteen-2/

“…our daily prompt (optional, as always!). Today, I’d like to challenge you to write a poem that recounts a creation myth. It doesn’t have to be an existing creation myth, or even recount how all of creation came to be. It could be, for example, your own take on the creation of ball-point pens, or the discovery of knitting. Your myth can be as big or small as you would like, as serious or silly as you make it.”

gods Hollywood and Eros

Bored, craving entertainment

Crafted galaxy of earthly stars

Folks once ordinary “no-names”

Who’d shine, walk boulevard fame

Wear dark glasses, designer threads

(Some “distressed” with price tags

To compliment salary, celeb’s)

The gods took largest egos

Draped in “got the look”

Beauty, handsomeness changeable

Features to fit “hip-now-happening” trend

Added personality pleasing or

Gag-me obnoxious—if talent passed

Bankable muster, box office

Then carved a distinctive demeanor

Fashioned stage, camera presence

Persona cobbled from memorable roles

In body of work public will purchase

Tweet, blog about ad nauseum

Rated by interviews given, shunned

Reviewers paid to give up/down thumbs

Origins obscured by imaginary bios

Sometimes brief, these souls live days

Of lavish wealth, over-top luxurious

With phony royalty’s entitlement

Lounging by turquoise swimming pools

Where gods, Hollywood and Eros, reflect

Fast-fading glitter in stars jaded gaze
