Unravel Me

https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/unravel/

Yet, still, you unravel me…

Like old sweater I’d have

Wrapped ’round your shoulders

With heart’s unrelenting affection

To away the chill bent on stealing you.

Your silence didn’t sway me—

I fill in the spaces with phrases

Wound like cotton yarn between

Fingers—cat’s cradle, dreams I play.

And they, words a-fraying—wise, pretty…

Deep as pensive Pacific clouds in

Dream-voice as far, wavy azure…

Yet, still, unravel me.

Love’s Limitations

He would have

Done anything to

Keep her heart

Warm inside

Safe from death—but staying young

Was not an option

~

He would have

Strummed guitar, sung one chorus

If they’d been

His to give

All he owned were copied words

Poems she wrote him

Rattling Words

Naive youth he’d been

Over-enthusiastic,

Life filled up dreams like

Balloons… Time whittled away

Wild exuberance, left him

Weathered shell; shut down,

But for rattling words inside—

Thoughts falling through small

Spaces where his ribs only

Breathed short half-breaths anymore.
